Brainstorming is a great tool to use to generate ideas and problem solve.

Guidelines:
  • Set a time limit.
  • Do not evaluate any ideas until all have been given.
  • Freewheeling – expressing wild ideas – is welcome.
  • The more ideas generated the better!
  • “Hitchhiking” – building on others’ ideas – is allowed.
  • Write all ideas on a flipchart so the whole group can see them.

Steps:
  • Clearly state the objective and ground rules of the brainstorming session.
  • Wait a minute or two while everyone silently generates ideas.
  • Participants contribute ideas in rotation or randomly.
  • The “scribe” writes each idea on a flip chart. Ask for clarification. Avoid Interpretation.
